RiverViews Artspace First Friday w/ Lynchburg Tribal; Feb. 3, 2012

Join Lynchburg Tribal at Riverviews Artspace on Friday February 3 for an evening of art, dancing, and superior company!
Event begins at 5:30pm, we'll dance at 7pm

The dancing? Baker Street Beledi, our newest set with a distincitve 1880's flair!

The current art installation? Gibson and Recoder describe the installations in their own words:
In our installation work, we use projected light to articulate space and time. Film projectors and celluloid are the material base of our constructions in light and shadow, the elemental properties of cinema. These things are deeply imbued with a history of viewership in the dark of the theater. To remove it from darkness is to flood this history and cast a certain illumination upon it. A certain exposure. Light spills in the shifting of film from its native darkness in enclosed chambers (camera obscura) to the uncanny openness and defamiliarized illumination of installation. We are exploring the shift, elaborating the displacement, recasting the light mechanics of a peculiar estrangement of the medium. The art of cinema, yes. But more timely: the becoming cinema of art. That is the coming attraction for us.

Picture
_Explore key dance concepts to give you a base for studying with a variety of instructors and workshops. This workshop series will give you a foundation to hear and communicate basic dance concepts. Over the years, Awalim Dance Company has been blessed with a wide variety of dancers and we want to share our experience in communicating across Egyptian, Turkish, Tribal Fusion, ATS Improv, and American belly dance styles.

The workshop curriculum is designed to foster your intellectual, artistic and professional growth and prepare you to study a wide variety of styles and levels. This workshop intensive will improve your rhythm, flexibility and endurance and create a foundation for formal belly dance training. Dancers interested in any style of belly dance will benefit from the material of these workshops.

***THIS SERIES OF WORKSHOPS IS BENEFICIAL TO ALL LEVEL DANCERS:
Beginner dancers- will walk away with a strong foundation that will prepare them for any style of belly dance, whether in a class, workshop, or learning a new choreography.
Intermediate- should grasp a more streamlined approach to studying with a variety of instructors.
Advanced- will experience a different approach to communicating with students and troupe mates, learn techniques to keep their bodies safe to elongate their dance career, and help build endurance for those long nights of restaurant work or show performances.
